Garageband 10 recording via Tascam iUR2 ext. mic.

I'm having difficulty getting the latest GarageBand 10.0.3 (on an early 2011 quad core i7 Macbook Pro) to 'see' my usb2, Tascam iUR2 audio interface.

My System Preferences/Sound/Input does see the iUR2 (with the mic) and shows audio across its' Vu meter.

GarageBand Preferences/Audio is set to System Settings and indeed, the iUR2 shows up as the input source when I create an audio track.

Unfortunately, there is zero input volume? The Vu meters don't show anything nor does anything get recorded?

I also tried setting the GarageBand Preferences/Audio/Input directly to the iUR2 but, no joy? Nothing gets recorded, again?

So, I used a third party program, audio hijack pro to record and it works normally?

Does anyone know why only GarageBand doesn't see this input device?

Or which setting ia pooched?
