My older 2011 iPad is stuck on the apple log screen.

I can push the home and power button and it will shut off, but when I turn back on it stays stuck on the Apple logo. I can hook to iTunes and it is recognized, but it tells me that I need to unlock the iPad first, which I can't do since I can't get past the logo screen.
