What SIM free phone? And, does Boost operate on GSM or CDMA?
the sim-free iphone 6 vs the tmobile and Boost mobile is a CDMA
Have you asked Boost if they support the iPhone?
i have asked boost and they wouldn't take the MEID to their service but this site https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ should indicate that it should work on their service
If you are referring to the T-Mobile SIM Free device sold by Apple, then no, that is a GSM device. I do not believe it would be supported by Boost. However, deggie brings up the best way to find out and that is to call Boost and ask them.
They are an MVNO for I believe Verizon. They don't show on that list and what they are telling you is they do not accept carry in phones. You won't be able to use it.
Many of the CDMA carriers will not activate devices not sold specifically for their network. Seems that Boost is the same way. Nothing you can do about that. They have to put the MEID in their system for you to be able to activate it. Seems they will not do that.
Chris, Apple added a second purely unlocked phone at their Apple online and brick and mortar stores, it is a model A1586. They did so about a week ago.
I saw that. I just wanted to make sure which device the OP was referring to, since it would make a difference. Seems he got his answer from Boost anyway.
I want to know about the sim free, its the one they started selling go to buy an iphone and its the alternative to the tmobile.and I have called and boost said no that i needed one from them but they dont have any in stock for about 3 months now and the sim free iphone should be unlocked for gsm and cdma use
Boost has actually been an MVNO for a number of carriers. They were a big one for a while on Nextel, with the push to talk feature. I remember that when we were using Nextels a lot at the police department I worked for.
I'd forgotten about Nextel, we used some tied to Boost.
Unlocked devices do not matter for CDMA. You cannot really unlock the CDMA side of a phone. Again, Boost says they will not activate a device not sold by them. Verizon is the same way, and I believe Sprint is as well. Nothing you can do about that, since you cannot force them to activate the device on their network. Activation of a CDMA device is much different than a GSM device. GSM devices are just activated with the carrier's SIM card. CDMA requires the carrier to enter the MEID into their network, and Boost has already told you they will not. They do not accept BYOD.
Yes, I'm aware of the one you are referring to. "Unlocked" is a term that only refers to GSM phones, there really is not a lock on CDMA. It all depends upon the carrier registering the MEID with their system. Boost has already told you they will NOT do that. You will either have to wait or go to a different carrier. They don't even show to be an authorized Apple carrier which would explain the delay in getting phones.
