AFP or SMB3 ??
Hey all,
Does the Time Machine server on OS X Server 4 use AFP, or SMB3?
And, AFP vs. SMB3
Which is more faster?
Mac mini
Time Machine is still limited to only AFP.
Supposedly SMB3 is slightly faster than AFP between the same Mac and Server. (Assuming both ends support both.)
You could try using a free speed test tool to measure your own results. See http://www.helios.de/web/EN/products/LanTest.html
Make sure to only be logged in via AFP or SMB3 and not both at the same time. You can also check which version of SMB is being used by doing the following command in Terminal.app after logging in to your SMB server.
smbutil statshares -a
