Why is my iPod not backing up to iCloud?

I manually backed up my plugged-in iPod Touch to my computer. Then I click on the button to backup to iCloud, and iTunes seems to be doing something. But the date for my last iCloud backup remains the same. I didn't receive a message that my iCloud storage is full.
