Jan 18, 2015 2:08 AM in response to nightwinger5by Japib,Hi. this is because the Hard Drive is Formatted for Windows use only, so the Mac can only read it. For you to use the external drive, follow this guide, and instead of choosing "Mac OS Extended (Journaled).", choose "FAT32":

Note: this will erase everything on the disk, so back it up before erasing it.

I cannot back up 300 gb external hard drive to a 120gb hard drive just to format it so i can backup. And ntfs is not a "microsoft only", it is what my 128gb micro sd card on my phone is formatted to and my ps3, and exbox both read and write to. Why fat 32 will not let me have files larger than 4 gbs and is an outdated format. This is why i am leaving mac
