My "and" sign and the right parenthesis keys are not working...they will type the numbers 7 and 0, but will not do anything when hitting shift and the corresponding key. This just happened, as it was working before. I have the keyboard language set to USA as that is where I am.
Are there any other settings I could be missing? Please help!!

Check the system preferences for dictation and speech and make sure that these have not somehow gotten set as shortcuts for activating anything there.
Also try setting up a new user account and see if it works right when you are logged into that.
Thank you Tom! I did check the dictation - it is turned off. I also tried logging in as another user, and both keys work! However, that doesn't solve my problem other than knowing that it has to be a setting somewhere...any other ideas?
I also tried replicating all the keyboard settings that I have on my iMac (both keys work on this computer) and making sure that my Macbook Air (the one I'm having a problem with) were exactly the same. I restarted my computer and they still do not work.
Any other suggestions?

Have you installed any 3rd party apps or utilities which might assign special functions to keys?
If another account works, then it is probably a bad .plist in Home/Library/Preferences in the main account. To reach Home/Library you have to hold down the option key and then do Finder > Go > Library. It may not be easy to figure out which .plist is doing it. Try trashing the one that says HIToolbox and restarting. If necessary, you can move all the preferences to your desktop, they will regenerate when you restart and maybe fix it.
Hi Tom! I transferred the Preferences folder to my desktop, deleted HIToolbox and restarted my computer. It still doesn't work. Any other ideas? I'm not sure what the .plist files do/are...could I delete the ones from the last few days - as the buttons worked two days ago?
Any other suggestions would be helpful...I'm so frustrated. I use the ampersand sign in my company name and can't do smiley faces without the right parenthesis 😟
