Anyone using ColorMunki Photo with Retina iMacs?

I've been successfully using X-Rite's ColorMunki Photo to profile my current MacBook Pro display. I just got a new iMac 27" Retina Display with the upgraded video card.

Tried to profile the iMac, and couldn't get the luminance control in ColorMunki to work properly to adjust the desired (100) display luminance as an early stage of profiling. So went ahead and went thru the profiling process, came to "Save" and did that, and the display turned posterized! I finally was able to figure out how to get back to the 'standard" profile and get rid of the custom profile, but not a pleasant experience.

Has anyone used the ColorMunki to successfully profile their iMac Retina display? Works fine on my MacBook Pro's Retina display, but goes haywire on the iMac.

I will contact X-Rite tomorrow, but would appreciate anything you could pass along on this.

Contacted X-Rite, and problem has been resolved. May have been that ADC (auto brightness) was the problem (be sure unchecked in Display Prefs), and the initial brightness of the display was over 400 (I am shooting for 100), so used the slider in Display Prefs with the colormunki program open to adjust the luminance down to 101 (the step where the program has you adjust luminance as close as possible to your desired luminance before it actually does the profiling). Slider was much easier and more precise than using the keyboard brighten/darken function keys.

I had disabled ADC, and this didn't seem to make any difference but using the slider rather than keyboard is a great idea that I will try in future. What actually has made the biggest difference for me is plugging the ColorMunki into a powered usb hub (found mention of this in a forum somewhere in relation to a macbook). Seems that not all usb ports provide enough power for the Munki.

ADC doesn't work with all monitors with all profiling solutions, so you just have to try it and see if it works. If not, then you always have to remember to turn that check box so you can set the brightness and other settings ADC would normally do manually.

Check the System Preference under Keyboard (Shortcuts tab), and make sure the keys to increase or decrease brightness are off.

They told me to connect device directly to computer, not thru hub (tho a powered one may be different). I had done this anyway, as I don't have a hub. So I think you're right about the power issue.

A few other things- Use Advanced setting, White Point should be D65 (it was), make sure the radio button for the white luminance is "on"- just choosing the value in the dropdown would not work if button is not illuminated.

Also with iMac, he said, in Colormunki preferences, Tone Response should be 2.2, change ICC Profile Version to Version 2, uncheck box for Achieve display luminance value using video LUT, ICC Profile version s/b Version 4, make sure Enable ADC is unchecked.

They recommend that only because that's the idiotic default of every computer and monitor you buy. It's also the worst default in computer history. D65 (6500K) was based on a northern sky, in the morning, with cloudy conditions. Of course it's blue! But how does daylight color look to you most of the time? It's much warmer, and what we consider to be more of a neutral gray. If you want your monitor to reflect the type of viewing conditions you experience most of the time, use the printing industry default of D50 (5000K), which is considered to be the value for a neutral, balanced gray.

I am having the same problem with the colormunki. Once I calibrated the monitor, hit to save the preset and my screen went grey and I don't know how to fix it.

How did you fix it when that happened to you???

Please help because I am working on an important project and assignments for university and I have to use the computer asap!
