Coun't get through the gray screen, all repaired through Disk Utility, but ...

Hello.

I couldn't get through the Gray screen (Apple logo and spinning gear).

Have followed all the steps found on the Apple support page, and run Disk Utility.

No issues with the disk, but a lot with permissions.

Have repaired the permissions, but when I verify again, I get the same permissions error!

They all looked related to a RemoteDesktop app. Actually, Citrix had been just used before all this happened. Citrix get started at the beginning and I suspect this is what is keeping me stuck on the Gray screen.

Is there a way I can uninstall Citrix using some utility from the install disk?

Do I necessarily need to restore from backup?

Would this solve the issue anyway?

I have a 'vintage' MacBook Air 1st edition 2008 (A1237) running Snow Leopard.

Thanks!

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.

Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.

Select your language.

Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.

Select Disk Utility.

Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.

Click Repair Disk.

Restart your computer when done.

Hi,

I have followed those steps already.

Disk is OK, while I get a lot of permission errors related to Remote Desktop. Although I get the message that permissions have been repaired, when I re-run the check, I get exactly the same errors.

I can't reach the desktop, as I get again stuck on Gray screen, Apple logo and spinning gear.

Could this be related to the use of Citrix?

Do I need to reach the desktop first, before repairing permissions?

Thanks!

Ok, this is where I am.

- have reformatted and reinstalled Snow Leopard

- restored from Time Machine

- everything seems working

However, it looks like I can't run any HW test:

- my MacBook is A1237, shipped originally with OSX 10.5.1

- have no disks (it's a MacBook Air)

- have upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.8)

- if I hold the D key during start-up it ignores it, till at login I'm entering a password like 'DDDDDDDDDDDDDD' ;-)

- if I try to restart from Snow Leopard installation disk I get the 'no entry' sign

Is there a way I can run AHT? Do I need really need it?
