Q: Help! I've just finished editing a two hour movie in iMovie 10.0.6 and it looks like I can't add chapters in iDVD. This is a long movie without chapters - which I "Marked" in iMovie. Does anyone have any suggestions for me ? Many thanks...

    Hi

There are no - Chapter Marks in iMovie'13 v. 10.0.6

You need to use an earlier version or FinalCut Pro to set them. There was a way around via GarageBand - but after up-date this also got lost.

Up-grade/Up-date doesn't always mean a better product in Apple View - rather frustrating.

Though - THERE IS AN AUTOMATED CHAPTER  setting function e.g. every fifth minute or what intervall You want. BUT a static one - all the same.

Try to see if You find it in Your version of iDVD.

    Hi Bengt

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

My version of iDVD has greyed out the Automated Chapter feature.

II'm trying to copy the finished .mp4 version of the movie 11.5GB into the previous version of iMovie - and hope to be able to add the Chapters into it and Burn from there via iDVD. I've made several attempts - it spends 2 hours Optimizing Video - and then at the final stage - throws it out but without any sort of message. Maybe the file is too big?

PIty. I Thought I'd figured out a good solution.

    Strange.

I do not use that modern Mac OS - but I would try first to do:

    - Trash iDVD pref file - While iDVD is not up and running.

    - then turn off and re-start Mac

    - now open iDVD and see if it is still Greyed out ?

My version of iDVD has greyed out the Automated Chapter feature.

Try going into the Map mode, selecting the movie and then accessing the Advanced ➙ Create Chapter Marker menu options.

You've gotten some good advice to TRY to add chapter markers to your existing movie.  In future, I recommend that you do your movie editing with iMovie HD 06 or iMovie 11.  My personal favorite is iMovie HD 06.   With these versions of iMovie you can create chapter markers with one click and these chapter markers are automatically recognized by iDVD.
