Q: Macbook Service Battery

Hello,

My 2011 Unibody Macbook (white) has been displaying "Service Battery" under the battery icon ever since I updated the software. The battery was always good and lasted long and when I downloaded the new OSX my battery life became half of what it was and displayed that message. I'm not sure what happened but I'm not happy as it's severely decreased the battery life of my Mac. Its on 546 cycles out of the claimed 1000 which seems weird to me that it would tell me to service it. I really don't want to buy a new battery for a ridiculous $130 and any tips would be appreciated.

Resetting SMC could solve the problem.

Battery cycle count is only one factor in the lifespan of your battery. How you've used it the past 4 years also has a dramatic effect. http://www.apple.com/support/macbook/batteries_power/
As noted above reset the SMC. If that doesn't help learn how to ise Activity Monitor to look for energy hogging processes How to use Activity Monitor - Apple Support
