I have an iMac from 2006 that is currently running it's latest update, which is 10.6.8. I need to restore it to factory settings, as I am selling it. When the new user turns it on I want it to be just like it is a new Mac.

Click here and follow the instructions. When you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C or Option key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.

You need its original disks to perform a true factory restore; if desired, you can use a retail Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 DVD instead, but the computer won't have iLife afterwards.

Sorry, I forgot to add that I don't have the original disk. I will add that to my question now.
