      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the

left mouse button until the disc ejects.

      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.

      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.

      4. Press COMMAND-E.

And, you can eject it within iTunes.

I think the question wasn't how to eject a cd, but how to eject an iPod after syncing it...

To eject an iPod or similar device, you click the small triangular symbol next to the device name in the iTunes window. (Safely disconnect iPod - Apple Support)

To eject it outside of iTunes, make sure iTunes is closed completely (with Command+Q or click iTunes in the menu bar and selecting "Quit iTunes"), then click on Finder in your Dock and click the triangular eject symbol next to the iPod name in the left-hand sidebar.

In all cases, the iPod is safe to disconnect when the name disappears completely from those locations, not simply fades to grey.

I respectfully disagree that if someone wants to safely remove an iPod from the computer the best advice would start with:

         1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.

    And I'm certain that:

          2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.

    will do nothing to help.

    And:

         4. Press COMMAND-E.

is not going to do much without a context either.
