Q: How can I rebuild the iPhoto database?

Twice I have received message about my thumbnails and permissions needed to be worked on.  The first time the "Genius" did a "rebuild" and that worked for a while.  How do I do a rebuild?

iMac & Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

What version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.6.3 as you state correct? Where is the iPhoto library located? If it in on an external hard drive what format is the drive?

Thanks...the external is a 2TB Lacie but I don't know what you mean about format?  I have been using this external for several months and it has a very poor connector.  I have copied all photo's back to the MAC hard drive.  I will try to figure it out but this is the second time with this issue.

The format is the drive - to have the iphoto library on it it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) - in the finder fight click on the drive and get info - the info window gives the format

And please explain the two new variables you just introduces without giving a single answer to  my preious questions

it has a very poor connector.
I have copied all photo's back to the MAC hard drive.

    and please answer

Remember we can not see you nor read your mind - I ask three questions - you have not answer a single one yet - without answers it is not possible to help

Good grief, LarryHN, lighten up!  There is a "Rebuild Database" function in iPhoto I thought someone would know the path to that function.  This was done a few weeks ago at a "Genius Bar" so I was going to try that, again.

If anyone knows that path I would appreciate it.

Back Up first. Then hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto.

The iPhoto Library First Aid dialog panel is different for the different versions of iPhoto, so to answer your question fully it would help to know, which version of iPhoto you are using.

This document explains the dialogue for the earlier versions of iPhoto: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
