Canon MG2520 printer configuration with Macbook 10.8.5 problem

I have a new Canon MG2520 printer I am trying to connect with my Macbook 10.8.5. Downloaded software, System Preferences/Print and Scan deleted previous HP printer, try to add new printer but nothing to add; tried downloading 2 x from internet, tried again, researched troubleshooting for hours to no avail. Followed instructions. Why are things so bloody complicated; it's very frustrating. And yes, I do have a mental condition to boot (no pun intended), so no jokes please. I know it's probably some overlooked, silly thing. Anyway, thanks to whomever can help!
