Q: please help, lost everything

My son did something to my ipod touch. On the screen it says connect to itunes, which I did, now ive lost absolutely everything, songs, games, photos. No backup. Now I cant download anything as it says I need to upgrade to a ios 5? I have tried everything and am my wits end, please help

That would be a 2nd generation unit, which can not be upgraded beyond 4.2.1. Use the link below to facilitate downloading older Apps.

just realised that myself, that's how much I know lol. is there anyway i can download games? as i had quite a few on it before they were wiped?

Since you failed to maintain a backup copy of everything, it is not likely.

You can try this:

Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier ...

It is very important to always maintain a backup copy of everything that you do not want to lose.
