Q: iCloud Photo Sharing, photo streams and Aperture?

If I turn on iCloud Photo Sharing on my iPad Air 2and iPhone 5S what will happen to all my photo streams set up through Aperture?

Will they disappear and then will I have to create them again through the iPad or iPhone or will they remain as they are?

Apologies if this is obvious but I cannot find any comment on this issue online.

Thanks

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 8.1

Do you mean "turn on iCloud Photo Sharing" as described in this document?

iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ - Apple Support

Then your Shared Photo streams in Aperture will become visible on your iPad and iPhone 5s. and you can use them as before.

If you meant iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ,  then things will change. Your Shared Photo Streams will work as before, but My Photo Stream will no longer upload from your Mac to the mobile iOS devices, that are using iCloud Photo Library beta.

    Thanks L eonie

I did indeed mean iCloud Photo Library beta.

I'm a photographer but have always used Aperture for family photos only, it was ideal to keep all personal pics apart from work, where I use Capture One.

I am a little daunted about the upcoming change to Photos for OS, I have over 40,000 images filed in Aperture, mostly referenced, and video, mostly managed.

I use the Book design feature a lot too and will be keen to hold onto all that data when the time comes to migrate, along with all the EXIF etc.

Do you have any experience of the iCloud Photo Library beta? Have you activated it?

    Thanks again

    Jeff

Right no it only works on mobile iOS 8 devices. I have enabled it on my iPad and the iPhone 5s.  It saves a bit of storage on the mobile devices, because only optimized versions of the photos are kept locally and the full sized versions are in iCloud.

The big drawback is that there is now no easy way to upload photos from aperture or iPhoto to the mobile devices. My Photo stream does not work and iTunes Photo Sync is also disabled.

It is not a big deal, however, since there is no good photo editing app any longer on my iPhone and iPad, because the iOS 8 update made iPhoto iOS incompatible. So there is no point in uploading photos to the iPhone.

Pixelmator is only available on the iPad. It can do a lot graphics compositing, but the image processing options are not as good as the iPhoto ones have been. But at least it is possible upload photos to Pixelmator iPad by dropping  them onto iClide Drive on the Mac.

So I will not be able to create new photo stream albums through Aperture if I start using iCloud Photo Library beta?

I will only be able to create new photo stream albums through my iDevices? And update existing albums only through iDevices?

I have never used just one app for photo editing on the iPad but a mixture of Photoshop Touch, Snapseed, the built in iOS edit feature, they all have their pros and cons. I did use iPhoto on iOS when it was available. But I have never edited professionally on an iPad, I use a Mac Pro, Capture One and Photoshop for that.
