Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like a Mac is not recognizing two different displays. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Feb 2, 2015 5:46 PM in response to Mac owner2by csmarksd,I've got a much older 204b connecting to a 2013 MBA i7. VGA maxed out at a significantly lower resolution. Multiple cables tested that were DVI --> DVI adapter --> black screen.
Wow! Mine os from 2003. Guess this is a shot in the dark.
"DVI to HDMI cable" --> HDMI miniport display adaptor. Full 1600 x 1200 or 1200 x 1600. The HDMI adaptor is Belkin. The HDMI to DVI cable is Dynex.
