Q: My iMac is getting hot and loud

Hi people!

I've got an iMac 27" 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 mid 2011. It use to be very fast and silent. But for last couple of months it getting louder and louder. The very moment I composing this message the iStatPro is showing the CPU usage between 0 and 1%, but the CPU temp is 48 C and the CPU fun is doing 4180 rpm. The back of my MAC is really hot. What can I do to solve my problem? Can the dust be a cause? I mean the usual home dust.

PS: It also seems to become not so fast it use to be. It now sometimes showing delays when browsing menus or even when typing.

Thanks for reading and answering

I repeated the procedure of SMC resetting couple of times. It didn't help at all. The problem does not seem to be in CPU fun. It's speed changes adequately to the temperature of the MAC.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

Look in Activity Monitor under All Processes for a hung iMovie process and kill it.
