remotely control apple tv from across town

My mother has mild dementia, and as a tough time changing her TV channels. I bought her an Apple TV so that she could stream many show, and watch movies on our shared family account. I know there are now millions who suffer from Alzheimer's disease, or dementia. It has been frustrating searching across the web, and finding NOTHING that allows me a simple way to log into my mom's wifi, and control her TV or box from down the street. I can change her AC temps, switch her lights on for her, and check her security cams, but I can't do something as simple as start a TV show? APPLE, PLEASE!
