Is it continually blinking or just when you use the remote.

Jan 20, 2015 5:34 PM in response to Winston Churchillby terymar,My Apple TV version 3 shut down a few days ago in the middle of watching a movie and it was flashing continuously
I could not get it to work at all I tried resetting it, all I got was a Macintosh apple logo on my TV screen
and nothing else. I had no connection to my iMac with Air Parrot software, or from my new macbook Air with Airplay.
Airplay was no longer visible to select on my macbook Air.
So I connected it to my Mac desktop, using USB and a power cord, to reset it back to factory defaults, as directed by Apple.
This took approx 90 mins to complete, then I had to set it up again…….BUT I cannot get it to work it refuses to
accept any password, and I have updated to a new password today but it will not accept it….
I presumed, I use the same Apple ID username & password that I use for iTunes and iMac etc for my Apple TV also ?
or does Apple TV have a different username & password ?
any ideas
Thanks
Terry

Jan 20, 2015 6:21 PM in response to vazandrewby terymar,My Apple ID has a username and password for my Apple account to buy stuff, that I had to set up with Apple on my Desktop,
and Apple TV also requests your username and password when you start setting up home sharing etc, or does it have a separate one of its own ?
I have tried using this one but Apple TV will not accept it……...
I just noticed that Apple TV is saying it has not set up the date and time etc yet so I am wondering if that is stopping it from functioning correctly
it is just a rotating disc that is loading up, but it has been doing this for ages, so i changed channels to watch some TV and left it loading
any ideas ?

Jan 20, 2015 6:33 PM in response to terymarby vazandrew,It is having trouble setting date/time because it isn't properly connected to the network
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be set to auto (settings - general - network)
If on wifi try Ethernet
Make sure router has port 123 open (refer to manual if unsure)

Jan 21, 2015 8:06 AM in response to Fireace20by Winston Churchill,If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
- Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source List
- Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
- Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
- Open iTunes.
- Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)
