pages documents will not go full screen

2009 Macbook 2.26 ghz, intel core 2 duo, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. Most recent update of Pages has left me without the ability to go full screen on my documents. (Teacher who projects quizzes in fullscreen - problematic without this ability). When I click full screen is goes there for one second or two then automatically backs out. If I go under the view tab I cannot select "full screen" although visible, it is shaded as if it is not an option.

I have checked for updates, I have restarted my computer.

Please advise.

What is that on your Pages > View Menu? Is that an Enter Full Screen (control+cmd+F) item? You can also click on the green traffic light on your document title bar — that will take you full screen too. Press that control+cmd+F to revert back to normal screen view. Pages menus are accessible in full screen by simply moving your mouse above the current Pages document title bar until the menu bar descends.

You can use the zoom > fit width toolbar button to make the document expand to fill the screen — once we figure out why you are not able to sustain full screen.

How much memory is in your Macbook?

Something you might try is to boot into Safe Boot mode. This allows OS X to clean and rebuild some System things ordinarily not touched on a regular reboot.

Steps:

  1. Shutdown your Macbook
  2. Power it on, and at the chime, press and hold the shift key, until you see a grey horizontal progress bar.
  3. At the login screen, after you enter your password, press and hold the shift key again, before you click the right arrow to login.
    1. Continue holding the shift key until your icons are back on the Desktop.
    2. It is normal that your Macbook is less responsive while in Safe Boot mode
  4. Reboot normally

Re-evaluate if you can sustain fullscreen mode with Pages v5.5.2. This may be related to minimal memory (my original question), or graphics hardware that isn't up to the task, if this is a Macbook .vs. Macbook Pro.
