New install of Java for Mac
Opened a new doc, text box and when scrolling through the text selections... illustrator crashes.
Is it a non compatibility issue with an older program with on a new OS macBook Pro?

Could be due to compatibility. Have you went to Adobe's support site/forums?
It could also be a Bad Font, especially if you brought over your old Fonts farm a different mac.
Font Book has a font diagnostic built in.
Well, I spent most of the afternoon at the apple store with a genius.
He couldn't help me. A manager suggested downgrading to Mavericks... installed it, came home
and the same issue is there in Mavericks!
A clean re install of Yosemite was made at the Apple store.
And the Creative suite. Still crashing.
Next... installed Mavericks. Same result!
Then you could post a copy of a typical Application crash, up to but NOT including, "Binary images... ", (because that excessive verbiage is only helpful to the developer). Try to check that the reports are all the same reason, otherwise you may have a different problem.
Readers can take a look at it for obvious problems, but your likely next stop will probably be Adobe.
