Why does MAC OS lose connection to the printer so often?

Every so often I have to reset the printing system and manually add the IP address of my network printer so I can print from MAC OS. Why doesn't apple spend no effort improving the ease of attachment to printer?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
