What can cause the internal fan to come on only while on the internet?

212330EJan15

Have MBP, OS 10.7.5, 2Ghz Int.Core i7, 64bit, Early 2011 15" screen. Using Opera v26.0.1656.60.

When on the internet, internal fan comes on strong. What could the causes of this be from?

Have turned off wifi access and fan subsides. After turning wifi back on and reloading website, fan begins to rev up to high speed.

Suspect online invasive probing from distant end, or just paranoid.

What method should be used to record this happening to report it accurately? Have QT Player v10.1 to record screen visual and sound.

Any tips, suggestions or info greatly appreciated. Tks in advance.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Hi Pstranti,

I would start with taking a look at the first article below. It will have you look at activity monitor for any application that could be a having an issue and using a lot of CPU, which would cause the fans to kick on. Another troubleshooting step would be to rest the SMC as that has to deal with power and fan control.

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity
