Online upgrade crash
online OS upgrade caused software crash. got it repaired. loaded OSX10.9.2.
Now should I try upgrade? if yes, then online (very large file) or by dvd (if one is available at all)

There is no DVD upgrade. And you posted to the wrong forum. 10.3 people usually have no knowledge of 10.9. Those upgrading to 10.9 or 10.10 have the same issues to contend with as 10.8:

Crashing says there is something generally wrong with your system, and backing up and isolating the crash cause is advised before any further upgrade. Upgrading is to enable compatibility for specific applications, while adding new capabilities. Only do so when all applications and drivers are supported by the upgrade.
