Jan 23, 2015 3:01 AM in response to Arsenal1199by Luis Sequeira1,I don't see that behavior in my mac.
What application opens when you connect a device (like a camera or iphone) can be set with Image Capture.
Ty opening Image Capture and inserting a card. At the bottom left you may see something like the image below - except that it will likely read "Final Cut Pro". Set it to "no application".

Jan 23, 2015 3:12 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by Arsenal1199,Appreciate reply Luis, but I already tried that. I have Image Capture set to do nothing if I insert a card, but if I have FCPX open in the background to work on something else, and I insert an SD card in to my iMac with GoPro footage on it (for example), FCPX will automatically spring to life and open up a Media Import Dialogue Box to attempt to import it. So I have to cancel the import and close the box, the hide FCPX again to get back to what I wanted to do in the first place. I could consecutively insert multiple SD cards with GoPro footage (I would film a fair bit of motorsport, so could have multiple cameras with such footage), as I want to filter out unwanted clips first and organise them in to folders first - but FCPX will spring up with that box each and every time, so it just becomes easier to completely shut down FCPX altogether - which is far from ideal if I have it rendering footage in the background!
Anyway, I appreciate the reply - I have seen others post the same question elsewhere, but nobody seems to have an answer. Cheers.

Jan 23, 2015 3:17 AM in response to Arsenal1199by Luis Sequeira1,Theses settings sometimes don't stick - particularly if you haven't used Image Capture before - as a lot of people don't even know they have it.
Even today someone at macintouch had a similar problem (only with iPhoto), and he also had it set to "no application".
Setting it to iPhoto and then back to "no application" cleared the problem for him. It may work for you as well.

Jan 23, 2015 3:28 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by Tom Wolsky,IIt isn't that FCP launches; it doesn't. It's that when FCP is open it always launches the import window when a card is loaded into the computer. This is a "feature" of the application. There needs to be a preference to turn this off, perhaps a switch in the import window itself as there is to close or leave open the window after importing.

Jan 23, 2015 3:50 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby Luis Sequeira1,Tom, I see your point. For some reason, I don't have this "feature". I just connected both an SD card and my iPhone to make sure I was not imagining things. Neither of them made FCP X's import window to come up automatically.

Jan 23, 2015 5:34 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by Arsenal1199,Luis, was FCPX open and running at the time? And were there actually video files on the SD card when you inserted it - as in - MOV or MP4 files (because if I stick in a CF card from my Canon 5D Mk III, it will open also!)?
Cheers Tom, you get what I'm saying - I'll make a feature request to them then and continue to live with it for now (along with the numerous other ones I've made since the birth of FCPX - though admittedly, the list is a lot shorter now!!)

Jan 23, 2015 6:40 AM in response to Luis Sequeira1by Russ H,★HelpfulHey Luis. I have a somewhat different experience. Connecting an iPhone does not open the import window. But inserting a card into my card reader or connecting a camera by USB does automatically open it. Never noticed any of this before. Of course, hitting Command-i will close the window)

Jan 23, 2015 6:59 AM in response to Russ Hby Arsenal1199,Fair play Russ - doesn't solve the problem, but makes dealing with it a **** of a lot easier (like so many other 'workarounds' we've got used to!). Many thanks for that little tip - never thought of Command-I before! Cheers!

Jan 23, 2015 8:16 AM in response to Arsenal1199by David Bogie Chq-1,FCPX is running.
Plugging in my iPhone immediately launches iTunes.
-
Jan 23, 2015 1:25 PM in response to David Bogie Chq-1by Tom Wolsky,That's because you have iTunes set to sync your phone.
My phone doesn't open the FCP import window, only a card, though I suppose a camera would as well.

Jan 24, 2015 4:42 AM in response to Arsenal1199by Arsenal1199,Guys, would be great if we could stick on topic - this has nothing to do with iPhones or photos (I don't even have an iPhone, so don't even know how that got in to conversation!)
It's when you have FCPX open (maybe just hidden, running in background, doing some rendering or whatever as you take a break to do something else), and you insert a card with VIDEO files - as in from a GoPro or DSLR, and it springs to life and opens an Import Dialogue box attempting to import the VIDEO files on that card: not an iPhone or a card with just stills on it - I don't deal with either!
But as Tom said, it appears to be something that needs to be 'feature requested', so please - no more responses in regards to sticking in your iPhone or photos: it raises my hopes up too high that a solution has been found when I get emailed with a 'Community Update'!
