Is there a way for me to use my iPhone to control my verizon fios DVR for watching the programs on my TV? I have apple tv for christmas from my children, but have not set it up.

Only if Verizon provides an app for such (check the app store), and if both devices can be connected via WiFi or Bluetooth. This also would relate to the AppleTV in any way.

Sony provides an app that I use (periodically, mostly for the broadcast TV guide aspect of it) that will control most *newer* devices ("Smart" with built-in Wi-Fi). It works great but once the novelty wore off, I just went back to using the included remote. As James Ward4 mentioned, look in the App Store for something similar.
We have DISH and can control our TV with the DISH Anywhere app
The previous posters are correct - there needs to be an app configured to your DVR and/or capable of interacting with your TV

Fios does have an Ap for your Iphone that will serve as a remote control. Surprised you missed it in the App store.

I just found "My FiOS", "Verizon FiOS Mobile", "iWavit FiOS"...etc, etc...
I put in verizon or FIOS, not together. I'll look now. thank you.
It will find the same even if you just enter "Verizon"...scroll down the list that's created when you enter "Verizon" and tap on the last result in the list which is "verizon fios".
I keep coming up with "your search has no result." I don't know what's going on. I decided to go to the app store thru iTunes. got tons of results. but my stand alone App with the "A" symbol didn't bring any results. what gives?

Are you using the US App Store? If not, this could be the reason.
I assumed so. I been using it since it came out. but it different on the window when I go thru iTunes.
I didn't find a good app for a TV remote. I found one and it was rated badly.
well I did find one, called FIOS mobile. We'll see how it goes.
