I have os x Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I cannot access certain websites are blocked because they say i must upgrade my browser (Safari)

If you're already running Safari 5.1.10, you need to either upgrade the computer's OS(if possible on your Mac) or switch to a product such as Firefox.

Yes I have Safari 5.1.10 .what is the next upgrade that I should make that will satisfy this problem safely without getting some version I really don't need that will potentially give me more problems.

Snow Leopard will not run on Mac OS 9 based systems. If you are indeed running Mac OS X 10.6.8 its Adobe Flash can be upgraded to allow visiting some websites. Its Java alas can not. But upgrading to Mac OS X 10.7 or later has its own major pitfall in compatibility, which is noted here:
