Safari browser hijack by quick-search adware. .

I can't even use the internet at all. Tried searching for sophos but was rerouted to suspicious link/ads. How do I get rid of this? Tried searching Mac for the name and I deleted some files but I am still experiencing problems.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
