Hello,

I have bought a used MacBook Air, mid 2011, which was running Yosemitie.I have erased the disk and am trying to reinstall the original version.

However, I am getting this error message:

Mac OS X can't be installed on this disk Untitled, because a recovery system can"t be created.

I would appreciate some help as I am now lost !!!

Many thanks in advance

Peter

because a recovery system can"t be created

I'd guess that a 2011 system would include a recovery manager. If not there, it should be able to download a system off the internet via the firmware.

Let's find out the system specs.

Query by serial number

Apple's warrenty database will identify the type of Mac you have. Your serial number is securely sent. Provides more information for newer machines.

This site provides more information. Best for older machines. Note, serial number is sent in the clear.

"A serial number is a unique, identifying number or group of numbers and letters assigned to an individual piece of hardware or software. It's used for various things depending on the product / brand but what is your Mac's serial number for and more importantly... what is it hiding and what can it do for you ?"

This site provides more information, but lacks security too.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have tried that. I get to the Mac OS X Utilities screen where I have used the Disk Utility and it's from there that I am prompted to install OS X Lion.

It appears that it cannot find the recovery disk. I have been told to try the disk util cs prompt and open Terminal and check the CoreStorage Volume Groups, which I have done. It shows 1 group. I have then opened another window in Terminal and entered diskutil cd delete !! I am now getting text showing that it could not mount disk with name after erase- Error 69832 file system formatter failed.

The plot thickens !!!
