iPhone pics taking up too much space; inaccurate amount of pics that take up space

Okay so I have an iPhone 5C (16GB) and I currently have 776 pics and 2 videos that are UNDER 45 seconds long. I have iOS 8.1.2 and I cleared the recently deleted page, but for some reason, that 776 photos takes up 3.4 gigs. Shouldn't it take up at least a little bit less than 1 gig? Is this a glitch? Please help.

iPhone 5c, iOS 8.1.2, Just hit a year old last month.

Simple solution: Connect your iPhone to your computer and backup your iPhone. Next, click the "Restore iPhone" button and that will erase everything on it and put a fresh clean version of 8.2. Once done, simply restore from the iTunes backup and all will be solved.
