So here we are in March and no response? I've followed all the instructions to ensure iCloud is connected, I'm logged, Mac ID is good, everything is the righter version, but every time I click a link from someone to Subscribe to an invitation, I'm told iCloud Photo Sharing is not available for this device

I have Yosemite 10.10.3 and do not have iPhoto / Aperture. Both iPhoto / Aperture are not even available on Mac store. How can I get this software if it is not available ? I just cannot access iCloud photo sharing and forced to use other services.

    I have Yosemite 10.10.3

The new app, Photos, is installed with 10.10.3.  You'll need to convert any existing iPhoto libraries to it by opening them with Photos.  In Photos' iCloud preference pane make sure these two checkboxes are selected:

I finally found that you have to open the email in the mail app that Apple puts on the device. It won't work with any other email app. Once I forwarded it to my email that's attached to my mail app and clicked on subscribe it worked. Hope it helps!

iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X 10.10.3

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

I am still getting this message. I can get the images I've been invited to see on my IPad, no problem.  But I cannot move them from that stream to my hard drive. I am running Yosemite 10.10.3 and Photos on my MacBook Air, but still nothing!!

Opening the invite from Mail worked for me (Macbook ElCap 10.11.6 ). It opened to Photos (it apparently does not care about iPhoto v. Photos in spite of the message).

This is among the most absurd user experiences I have seen since frames started being removed from html design manuals. Why on earth would Apple advertise its photo sharing application as universal from any device, if you can only subscribe from a particular device, if you happen to check your emails through a particular application, while you happen to be logged in to a particular service running on said device? I don't have to be checking my email in gmail on a Chrome Book in order to accept a shared folder invitation for Google Drive or Picasa, nor for Microsoft's or Amazon's competing services. And yet, Apple markets itself as a luxury modern brand.
