I have an iPhone 4s that was recently unlocked. everything is up and running - I think - but I can't add my phone number to the settings.
Under settings I go to PHONE and MY NUMBER - which currently reads - Unknown
when I try to add my phone number I get a message saying "Phone Number could not be saved"
why not? and how can I get it to add? furthermore, is it important?

Did you power the phone off/on? It is generally not necessary to enter your phone number in contacts, the iPhone picks it up from the SIM card.
Do you have a SIM installed in the phone?
I have turned on and off several times over the last several hours. I didn't mean that I expected my phone number to be in the contacts. but T-Mobile took my old SIM card and transferred everything to the new iPhone SIM card and none of them are showing up..
I do, I had T-Mobile create a new one for me - the old phone had the larger SIM which wouldn't fit.
my contacts are not coming through either - now that I think of it - so many other issues with setting this up I didn't even notice.
