Q: iPhone 4 Message:SIM Required (in phone that has no SIM card slot)

I have a Verizon iPhone 4 (CDMA), model A1349, which has no SIM card.  It has never had a SIM card.  There is no place to put a SIM card in.  This is my phone and worked perfectly since I purchased it new.  I bought a new iPhone 6 for myself and want to put this phone on my son's phone line. We have spent hours with Verizon and they cannot help us.  When we try to do something with this phone we get the message: "SIM Required - Please insert a SIM card"   "Try Again."  Like I said  - there is no SIM card.  This model iPhone has no place to insert a SIM card.  We are completely and utterly at a loss.  Any idea how to get past this?  Thanks.

    Try and just delete the update and restore first, might work without techs help if they have fixed the update now

    This is an Apple Software Issue you have to just talk to them like you know what you are talking about.  They created an update that did not allow for your phone that DOES NOT HAVE A SIM CARD!  An oops on their part and now seems like they are fixing it.  Told him that I successfully updated the phone to 7.1.2 but can not get through the activation, blocked by no SIM card message (which my phone does not have the capability for) and then mentioned the title of this thread.

    I Was on phone with support a good part of the yesterday and last night. i was informed that they indeed come up with a new update that resolves the sim issue without having an engineer getting involved. However, iTunes would freeze on me midstream of the restore process, so I called back and talked with a nice tech who directed me to a nice engineer that remotely updated it five minutes after the phone call. After reading most of this thread yesterday, I knew how to talk to Apple and wasn't charged anything. Thanks to all who contributed to thread and helping a fellow iPhone 4 owner!

    It seems the problem has been (or is being) solved at the moment by apple broadly.

     

    I had the same problem and I was going to call Apple today but I just found that I do not see the SIM requred message anymore. I can just enter the setup menu such as restore from iClould or from iTunnes, etc. So, I did not have to call Apple.

     

    It looks like apple has already fixed the problem.


    Mine is CDMA iphone 4 A1349 and it's being just used as ipod at home without carrier.

    Okay I'll keep an eye on the phone,might get lucky 2,&see the Msge ! I'm so glad I found this thread!thank you everyone for the thread,helpful hints,updates,  I'm not techy smart @all& I'm learning as I go along with the techy stuff! So great full!!

    I'm sorry. I just tried it again. But it didn't work. The same massage SIM Required! I did what you said. Can u tell me what to do now?

    Click Start

    Type in Search Bar:

    %appdata%

    Click Enter

    Open Apple Computer folder

    Open iTunes folder

    Open iPhone Software Updates Folder

    Delete the Restore (mine was the one below)

       iPhone3,3_7.1.2_11D257_Restore.ipsw

    power off phone and make sure it is unplugged from computer

    hold down the home button and plug back into computer until Itunes opens and says it sees phone to restore

    Click Restore, click restore and update

    follow directions to download update 7.1.2 again

    Came to Hello Screen and this time NO SIM CARD MESSAGE!!!!!!  got to Enter Wifi password and saw the home screen a moment and then said: Restore in Progress

    Restoring iPhone from backup

    And it was fixed!!

    You have to contact Apple directly. The problem is not in your phone, it is in Apple's activation servers. Until they fix it there for your phone the problem will remain. It would be nice if the searched out and fixed it for all phones without having to contact them, and that may happen some day, but it hasn't yet.

    I think it starts happening according to my case.

     

    Until last night I saw the SIM CARD message.

    This morning, I don't see it anymore and I was able to restore my phone without contacting Apple.

    Hopefully, others can be done the same way shortly.

    It probably would have worked if you had just restored the phone again. It got fixed overnight by Apple.

    I have no way to call in support of Apple, what are the alternatives to be contacted?

     

    Recovery algorithm iPhone 4 SIM from a query in manual mode:

    - Contact support Apple (MEID)

    - Restore through iTunes
