Q: password problem

Trying to install latest version of Java.  Install app asks for password.  When I enter my password and hit enter the dialog box shakes side-to-side and nothing happens.  The password is correct.  Anyone know why this is happening and how I can get Java on my computer?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

"dialog box shakes side-to-side" : it doesn't accept the password. Make sure you enter it correctly (right keyboard, caps lock of, etc)

I have done all that.  When the box comes up it has my actual name as the ID. First I tried just entering the password with the way the name came up which did not work so then I entered my actual Apple ID and then my password.  Still did not work.  I went to my apple account and entered my ID and password and it worked fine, even had to use it to get into this forum.  Any idea why my ID and password won't work with the Java dialog box?

It wants your admin password, not your Apple ID password unless you have set them as the same. If all else fails, boot off the system DVD, go to the Utilities menu and select Reset password.
