Q: Defective External speaker

I just been given an Iph 5 and the external speaker is not working. Looks like the problem is a defective issue with the hardware.

I called Apple today and was told that it had to be sent for repairs, or I could get a new one for $265.00???? Do you think I should have to

pay for a defective item that every one has been having issues with?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1

If you have a warranty or Applecare then it would be free to replace or repair.

If it is out of warranty look at the original price. It was a lot more than $265.

If you think Apple should give you a device or free repair, take it up with them. We are mostly just other Apple users here, so we can't help with what Apple do with broken iPhones.

    Good luck.
