Q: Problem importing to Aperture

Not able to import photos to Aperture. Have done this many times but the process has stopped. Won't import from iPhone or Canon camera although the pics initially show in preview.

Error message window indicates a problem importing but no solution.

Recently updated to Yosemite 10.10.1 and have updated that software to repair a problem with Aperture

I downloaded the pics to iPhoto fine and exported to a folder but still can't import these into Aperture.

What is the exact error message?

Which version of Aperture are you using?

Also, even though the pics are still on the phone/camera or file, once this message appears Aperture no longer sees them.

This is a weird error, since it happens both with the iPhone and the camera, but not with iPhoto.

Are you using the same library with iPhoto and Aperture?

If not, try to import into a new aperture library.

If that does not help, try to remove the Aperture preferences.

Quit Aperture and remove the following files from the User Library:

    • ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCapture2.some_weird_combination_of_l etters.plist
    • ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Import Presets.plist
    • ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Aperture/

Your user library may still be hidden. To open the hidden User Library:

    • Click somewhere on the empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
    • Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
    • Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.

In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folders Preferences and Containers and remove the files.

Is is essential to restart the Mac after removing preferences files.

After removing the files, you will need to enter your preferences again in Aperture's Preferences panel, and also to reset the Import setting.

I had imported the iphoto library into Aperture a couple years ago. I don't usually do anything on iPhoto now but was able to upload these pics into that program.

I created a new Aperture library and was able to upload those pics from the files i had placed them in from the phone to iphoto to files. Too much moving. How do I merge the two libraries and is there an explanation? I haven't done the other actions yet.

    Thanks

You can merge two libraries like described here - it does not matter if Aperture library or iPhoto Library:

Created a new library and merged the two. WORKED! Not sure why but it worked. Thanks for your assistance!
