I recently found that sound has ceased to come out of the left earphone of any pair of headphones I put in my iphone 5c. I've had the phone for less than a year and haven't found any problems until now. I've tried numerous methods for cleaning the headphone jack but the problem remains. I don't know how to fix this problem.

I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your iPhone. If the audio output to your headphones seems to be all on one side/channel, and the issue wasn't resolved by cleaning the headphone jack, you may want to double check the audio ballance setting in Accessability. This setting, in Settings > General > Accessibility, allows you to bias the sound output to one side or the other. You may find the following article helpful:

I've already tried fixing the audio balance but there is still absolutely no sound coming from the left side. Should I send it in to get fixed?
