DDid disk util it's for the first time in 6 years. Didn't know anything about it. After several attempts we got the following message. Not able to repair structure because the selected disk contains your home directory and can't be unmounted. We are lost.

This has nothing to do with Classic. You can only repair the directory using either single user mode, or the 10.6 installer disc, if you are running 10.6.5. Subscribe to my* http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html to learn how.

Try booting off the DVD to use Disk Utility to repair the disk. It can't repair the disk you are booted from.
