"Is there any way to reinstall the SMC??"

    Well not sure how these were done when they were manufactured, but the SMC is actually a chip on the logic board;

    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/New-For-MACBOOK-PRO-A1278-SMC-EC-CHIP-i5 -i7-CPU-P-N-820-3115-B/835633_1445006991.html

So while it might be possible to redo the firmware in the SMC the only other way would be to remove the current chip and replace it.

So basically the overall answer is no!

"I think that this update is the problem..."

Did you get messages to install the update? Given that it was posted in Nov. 2011?

Are you sure the update failed?

    Wait....

" Without battery installed i ran this: MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.5"

I've never tried a SMC firmware update without the battery installed!

So you still have that update on your computer?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1474

You might see if it will run again now that you have an actual battery in there.

    Don't panic if this happens:

"When your computer restarts a gray screen will appear with a status bar to indicate the progress of the update."

    That's normal!

    So now I'm looking here:

EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs - Apple Support

Look down at checking your firm ware version. Step 5 and report what it says.

If you look at the available list of SMC updates for your machine there is no 1.5 SMC update!?

I've tried all these steps many times! I don't know why i did this update,a friend of mine said:boredom? he did an update and damaged his car chip because of boredom (I don't know how to explain it in English)

By the way when i did again the update with the battery installed…Same thing happened..

A grey screen appeared with a status bar but when it started it crashed again!

So can you go to "About this Mac - More Info - System Report - Hardware Overview

    Like here:

So what does it say,  "SMC Version"?

    "a friend of mine said:boredom?"

Yes, a bad reason to do anything.

    This is mine:

    " Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B27

      SMC Version (system): 1.68f99"

    but it's a 2011 MBP 13"

    "SMC Version (system): 1.47f2"

So it seems like your machine didn't take the 1.5 update. So that's good. Does anyone you know have a known good battery that's compatible with your machine.

Where exactly in Greece are you located?

I think the problem is on the logic board or on the smc because before the update and before the new battery the indicator lights on the left worked, now not working!! the old battery worked too before the update and the new battery!! Now doesn't work!! Sometimes i think that i must check the new battery but how can I check…the battery is empty

I'm from a village (Agriovotano) near to Istiaia,Evoia,Greece… I live in Istiaia,a small city (10.000) .about 200km from Athens.

    "You? United States?"

Yes, my ex wife was Greek from Mytilini (Had to change the name!

I've been in Athens, Kos and Rhodes. Beautiful!

You might be stuck not being able to use a battery.

What happened w/ the old battery?

" before the update and before the new battery the indicator lights on the left worked, now not working!! "

That cable for the indicator bar is very small and easy to mess up.

Seems like that new battery is bad. Old one?

So does the laptop go to sleep if you close the display?

Yes - Battery indicator lights are probably OK

No - Battery indicator light/sleep sensor cable is unplugged. It's just to the right of the battery cable so it's easy to unplug.

That wouldn't affect the problem you're having with it not charging.

    Mytilini, nice!

No the cable is ok! The old battery worked before i do the update and put the new battery in!

The indicator lights worked with and without the battery inside the laptop…without the battery inside when i was pushing the button all of them went ON once and after off(because of no battery inside)

Now doesn't work with or without the battery haha

So thats why I say that the problem is the update or the new battery destroyed my logic board!

Yes,when i close the display the laptop goes to sleep! :/
