my iPad air does not make any sound on the alarm

1. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

2. Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.

A reset will not affect your data on the iPad.

1.First ensure that the mute switch is working.

2. Then try to max volume. Use hand-off mode or play some music to ensure that the speakers are working properly.

3. Check in settings for the ringtone that is used for alarm.

4. If all that does not help then create a backup in iTunes and restore as new.

5. If it still does not work there is a hardware issue wich can only be repaired with service.

By resetting device your settings will be setted to default.

So better create a backup before resetting or restoring device.

Also check the "Do Not Disturb" setting. Make sure it is off.

Thanks for coming back with the fix...I had the same frustration and your solution worked for me as well. How odd the default should be mute and the volume buttons disengaged for alarm ( and timer).
