Ipad mic VERY quiet

MMy iPad mini retina has a problem where the microphone level is so extremely low that no audio will be picked up unless I put my mouth right next to the mic hole when talking.

SO I can't use Skype, facetime, video, Siri or anything that requires mic input.

there does not appear to be anything blocking the mic, even so I have used air jet to clean it out to no effect.

i Have the latest iOS. 8.1.1 I noticed that problem about a month or so ago. Previously I have been able to use Skype etc fine

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

This sounds like a hardware issue.

Try if to create a speech-memo to ensure this issue is related to the Mic and not to the Apps running.

Try to backup and restore as new, if you experience same issue then check liquid sensor in headphone plug and dock hole.

If there is a liquid damage or a hardware issue the device needs repair service.
