O2 unlocking Iphone 5 and I don't have original Itunes account details

Hi

I've bought a IPhone and I've paid the carrier to unlock the iPhone and they have informed that I need the original ITunes account associated with the Phone.

I've been in touch with the previous owner who is a business and says he can't help. Is this a case that I need the original account or can I use my own ?.

Please help !!!

This is the first time I heard that the carrier needs an iTunes account info to unlock the phone. There might be other requirements to meet, but not an iTunes account info.

iPhone: About unlocking

If the phone is not set up with the Activation lock, you can set it up with your account info. Check this article:

Find My iPhone Activation Lock

You can check the current Activation Lock status of a device by visiting icloud.com/activationlock from any Mac or PC.

I guess they mean the Activation Lock. If the Activation Lock is active, you'll have to fill in the Apple ID and password that has been used to set up the phone originally. If you don't have that info, the setup process will not start and the phone will be useless.

Check the status of the phone by using the link above. If no Activation lock, the phone can be set up with your Apple ID.
