Q: iMessage don't send and receiver are "not registered"

On my MacBook Pro i have problems with the iMessage.

I did active with my Apple-ID Account and be connected without problems. But when i like to send a Message, i get the Error that the Receiver is no registered by iMessage.

Also i don't receive Messages on this MacBook.

It works on my iPhone5, iPhone4, iPad3, iMac in the office and iMac at home. But not on this MacBook.

It did work before till begin of January 2015.

In the Console i did find:

[Warning] Needs deletion: NO (Registration info (0x7ff63a7a8dc0): [Registered: NO] [Type: AppleID] [Device Name: (null)] [Service Type: iMessage] [Env: (null)] [Main ID: ....

What i can do ???

Did try to disconnect, also in my iPhone, reboot and so on, but all in vain

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

    Hi,

Messages and particularly the iMessages account now has a range of "Known Issues"

First there were these four FaceTime, Game Center, Messages: Troubleshooting sign in issues - Apple Support

Then there was this 5th one

    Apple ID.png

This is obviously before the Account seems to be logged in and can only be Fixed by contact Support (you may have to bump to Level 2  people)

Then there is the issue you have. (I call it Issue 6).

The App and the Account seem to be logged in.  (you can only tell if you are not if it fails)

In this case it works on iOS devices, sometimes other Macs if you have them but not on this computer.

It is related to the Apple ID and the Mac (even if you create another Mac User and set up Messages there the issue continues).

Deleting the Keychain Item (IDS: AppleID-Auth Token) seems not to help. It is not recreated until you can log in fully/properly.

On the basis that Issue 5 exists and proves you can have an issue with the ID at the Server and it will only effect one Mac then the presumption can be that this issue is very similar.

    That means contacting Apple Support.
Level One responders are Script led and will try to fit you into either Software or Hardware issues.

If you cannot convince them it is an Account Issue (free to fix) then ask to speak to a Level 2 person.

You may still have issue convincing them as well but they do tend to be more flexible and it really does not take them long to look and check.

    Hi,

As it says in the thread Linc and linked you to, it is worth checking the Contacts App > Card Menu > Show My Card and checking it has your details.

As I said above though we have led people through various things that would have helped with similar problems in iChat but they don't seem to work in Messages.

I would still say that contacting Apple Support and asking them to Check the Mac's use of the Apple ID on the iMessages server is the best step at this point.

Most likely every Contact you try to iMessages will say "Not Registered"

Unfortunately this fix didnt seem to help me. An interesting thing is that today I created a quick VM of OSX, signed in, applied the latest updates and it works fine?

I have sort of the same issue. All of a sudden iMessage wont send anything at all, claiming the other party is not registered. All works well on an iPhone though.

    I am getting these errors:

29/01/15 17:52:13,325 Messages[393]: [AOSAccounts] : [IsAccountKeyChainActive] : had error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.security.sos.error error 2 - Remote error : The operation couldn‚Äôt be completed. (com.apple.security.sos.error error 2 - Public Key not available - failed to register before call))

29/01/15 17:52:13,361 Messages[393]: CoreText CopyFontsForRequest received mig IPC error (FFFFFFFFFFFFFECC) from font server

29/01/15 17:52:13,376 Messages[393]: *** setObjectForKey: object cannot be nil (key: NSFont)

I thought I had fixed it, by adding a 2nd email to my AppleID.  But this solved it only temporarily. Also all fonts were checked for any problem. All are valid.

Now there is only a window displaying: No messages are selected.

Same issue under new user as well.

    Hi,

    That's interesting.

In similar cases we do know that testing in  different Mac User account can show that it is something within the Home Folder about the original Mac User account that might be the issue.

However if it does not work in another Mac User Account on the Mac the issue would tend to be either Hardware/Software related or outside of the Mac.

Most of out testing (asking people to try different things) has pointed more towards the server being the issue.

    Same problem for me.

Stopped working yesterday. I tried different apple ID, different user account, reinstalled (freshly on new external drive whole Yosemite 10.10.2) and nothing works. On VM in parallels - everything is working. On other macbook - working. iPhone - working. On this particular macbook - not working.

Looks like sth with serial number on apple server...

PS Serial number IS available on "about" page and is the same as on bottom case.

    PS2 Handoff also stopped working.

    Hi,

If different Mac User accounts are not working with iMessages on this computer I would contact Apple Support.

Not only different account - different installation of clean system!

Contacted, waiting for call from Level 2 tomorrow at 10 am (GMT +1). I will inform You. I talked with him on my way home today, so I couldn't check with him anything. He said, that probably we will contact somebody from level 3.

ok, a bit of a random into the mix but thought I would mention it in case it helps with someones troubleshooting:

I have noticed that there is a difference between my contacts on my main mac (imessage not working) and my VM (imessage working):

    1. In Contacts App > Preferences > General there is no Default Account to select where I can select either iCloud or  On My Mac on the VM.

    2. This is reflected on the Contacts left hand nav where it lists contact groups: Mac just has a list of groups where the VM has groups grouped by iCloud or On My Mac.

Changes to contacts do sync between Macs/Devices ok.

Both Mac and VM running same OSX version 10.10.2 (14c109)
