In Word has anyone found a shortcut for the minus sign, as in 6 - 4 (but not as I've typed - that's a hyphen)?
And also for -5 (the minus sign here should be slightly higher than in an operation)?
I can get them through Special Characters in Finder, but it doesn't allow me to copy into Word.
In Word Insert Symbol gives me the basic maths operation symbols but it's limited.

Whatever sign it is you want to use for minus, you can create an easy way to make it using the standard Word autocorrect tools
You've lost me. The minus sign or dash is on your keyboard. On my US keyboard it's next to the Zero key. There are, however, equation writing software you can use with Word. Office comes with an Equation Editor that is located in the Office folder inside the MS Office folder.
