It's a very small update that you hardly NEED to install. If you use your Mac at a business then Remote Desktop Client is the software that your IT dept might rely on to remotely gather information about the physical hardware specifications of the Mac or connect to the screen. The software is called Apple Remote Desktop, google it.

Thank you  Andrew... but still confused. I actually had previously googled this and found that information. But I don't understand why I would be asked to download the updated version when not involved in this type of sharing. I went ahead & downloaded it but wonder why it's even needed on my OS X Yosemite. I don't think I would have received the upgrade unless I already had this program in a previous version and can't find any explanation anywhere. So why do I need this? And...should I not have downloaded it? Any help is appreciated... and thanks!

It's just something that comes built into every Mac. You can either download it or right click the update and choose "Ignore" or "Hide". It's a very small update that doesn't take long to download or install so it's probably easier in the long run just to click the "Update all" button in the App Store when you see more than one update available along with 10.10.2 for example.

You can also have these updates install automatically. See the bottom of the first link "App Store preferences" for how to do this:

Doesn't make sense but I know why it exists now.

"It's just something that comes with... " is always a scary answer.
So who are my "remote clients?" Thanks.

PS Several attempts to "HIDE UPDATE" do nothing.

It's an integral part of Mac computers that makes them easy for IT administrators to manage. Any computer is going to have this type of feature whether is is a Mac or PC. There is nothing scary about it.

The component will sometimes get updated from time to time, but not that often. There is no reason you wouldn't want to update it because it can't be removed from your computer.

It is NOT TURNED ON by default. You can see this by going to System Preferences -> Sharing. You will see that Remote Management is unchecked.

Even if you had turned it on it would be very difficult, if not impossible, for you yourself to access your own computer outside of your home network due to something called a Firewall

I went ahead and did the update, but I can't find this application anywhere on my computer. I can see an application called Remote Desktop Connection.app, but it has an old date (2012), and it says version 2.1.1. Where can I find whatever was installed by this update?

Honestly, you shouldn't be too concerned with if it worked or not.

It's more a thing that a system administrator would care about -- if the machines he looks after have the latest version. It doesn't affect your personal usage of the Mac AT ALL. I would want to update a computer as a system admin because when I use Apple Remote Desktop (a paid application) it will report the hardware specifications of a system to me within that application more accurately. That's really about it, a very small thing that is hardly noticeable.

If you want to check though, you would navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app and do get info on that application. There is a field that says "version", which should be 3.8.2

I found the application where you indicated. My concern about this has ended. Thanks.

I also gave up and gave in.

Now, how do I stop from getting any more updates on this subject? (Or, any for that matter).

As the name 'Apple Remote Desktop Client' suggests, you are the client, if it said Server instead of client then you could have clients.
