Can anyone help.
Running a new, 27" Late 2013 3.4GHz iMac (Mavericks 10.9.5)
My Application folder on the dock is displaying the file extension (.app) on all applications, I do not want to see these extension types
These are not being displayed in the Application Folder in Finder.
There has to be a way to disable this in the Application folder on the Dock, but I am at a loss as to how.

You can hide all file extensions by selecting:
Finder>Preferences
Then under the 'Advanced' tab deselect 'Show filename extensions'
You can do this on a file by file basis by selecting the file then select File>Get info to bring the info window up, there you will see a section 'Name & Extension' with a checkbox for 'Hide extension' although selected * applications * seem to have this option disabled.

I have already deselected Show File Name within Finder>Preferences, and as you have mentioned, the option to untick the Hide Extension within the "Get Info" dialogue box for individual applications.
Even with these settings .app still appears in the Applications Folder on the Dock.
So still at a loss.

The only other thing I can suggest is to 'Repair permissions' using the 'Disk Utility.app' which is located in the Applications > Utilities folder then try again after doing that, otherwise go to an Apple store and take it to the Genius bar as this seems to work for me using Yosemite 10.10.3
