How to stop auto formatting of text

I am new to Numbers- how do I stop auto formatting of text? Every time I type '2hrs' (as in 2 hours) it changes to '2h'. Also, when I type the date as '28-Jan' it changes to 28/1/15. I have already tried unchecking text replacement under substitutions, as well as unchecking correct spelling automatically under spelling and grammar. Thank you!

Hi Katelyn,

You can format your cells as text and Numbers will not change things but I do not think that is what you want. I thnk you want a date to remain a date and a duration to remain a duration but with the formatting you want. You can do some of this. You want to create a custom format. You will find it in the data format menu.

For durations you are not so lucky here are your options:

If you are not doing any calculations on these numbers you can convert them to text format. They will show the way you enter them and you may be able to add them sometimes. If you do add them they will show as the single "h".

I hope this helps,

quinn
