BC = Bootcamp Drivers are used by Windows to support Apple Hardware visible to Windows.

The ISO is not deleted during or after installation. It is copied to the USB, as needed.

The USB stick is needed, if your Mac does not have an Optical drive (for DVD) and it will hold the BC drivers and Windows ISO.

The USB is also needed, if your Mac has an Optical drive, to hold just the BC drivers.

In case of scenario

Boot-camp only, usb stick with drives and iso needed to be on laptop from before boot till end and shutdown of win 10...?

In the scenario using VMWare Fusion that can run win 10 either as pure VM or from boot-camp - I think not require separate install in the latter case... what happens required also usb stick?

The BC drivers will be downloaded from Apple Servers by Bootcamp Assistant which is built in to the Apple OS X.

W10 may come in either ISO or physical media. You can use either. Please also see http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203909.

You can always re-build the USB using Bootcamp Assistant, so you may need to save the USB.

You can estimate the total size by looking at W10 TP download size and the BC drivers size (roughly 1GB today). It may be better to use a 16GB USB to be safe.

1. BC Assistant downloads BC drivers to a local directory.

2. BCA copies the drivers to the USB, putting some in $WinPEDriver$, which will be used during Windows boot process to provide HW support.

3. BCA copies ISO contents to USB.

4. BCA marks USB bootable for Apple Boot Manager.

5. BCA instructs Bootmanager to reboot from USB.

6. USB is read and control passed to Windows Installer, which uses contents of the ISO to install Windows.

7. The AutoUnattend.xml on the USB tells the installer to run setup.exe.

8. The screen shot indicates what the USB contains.
